Oldenburg usually provided humour, but for sheer beauty and stunning impact, Bridget has been the one for 50 years now. Although her work is at its very best on massive scale, this 1968 print is wonderful – an example of how her relative subtlety – as say compared with Vasarely – makes for a long-term satisfying image; (whereas a Vasarely, though often captivating and arresting, is more akin to a sugar rush.)
